DLM Newsletter April 2025

I was blessed to have a driver to take me to Kampala for church and Kabowa Bible study. Having a driver certainly reduced the stress of traveling. It was a Muslim holiday, so some boarding children weren’t around because their parents had them for the holiday. My lessons are the same in Kabowa and in the village, but I can move through the lessons much quicker in Kabowa because the children are older and are more fluent in English. They can find Scripture quickly and can copy much faster. We studied the purpose of the law, which is to reveal sin, to restrain evil, and to regulate the Christian life. Glory to God!

I had to return to Kampala for a doctor’s appointment. The driver took me by the school again so I could give out the maize flour that I packed last week. Our sponsored children who are day schoolers…..meaning they go home after the school day....received the flour to take home to their parent or guardian. The kids were excited and thankful!

I had so much fun serving my neighbor today! I used my weed eater to slash/cut the grass in her garden plot so she could prepare the land for planting. Because her husband is not a Christian, I made sure she told him that I was serving because the Lord tells us to serve others in the Bible. My friend, Mama Dora, was so happy and appreciative. Her husband was also thankful.

Today, Mama Dora and I met in her home for Bible study to continue our journey in 1 John. We read chapter 2 verses 7-11. “Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.”

We see that Jesus showed perfect love and is the example for us. We must love others if we are truly born again. It’s not easy. Mama Dora and I shared stories of times when God has helped us to show love to others, even though they hurt us. We praised the Lord that He helps us to love others! Glory to Him!

Then, I slashed some weeds with my weed eater and leveled off some piles of dirt in my compound.

I took a break and sat in the grass in the shade by Shadow, my dog.

Our DLM compound is 17 acres and has lots of grassy areas. I discovered in the last few months that some of the grass is good for the cows, so we help our neighbor by giving them grass for their cows. Otherwise, they have to search for it and even buy it. Here is the teenage daughter using a sickle to get the grass.

Rainy season is upon us, so everyone is planting their different crops. I helped my neighbor, Mama Dora, plant beans.

Wednesday April 16, 2025

Mama Dora's sister joined us for our Bible study in 1 John. She was helping Mama Dora plant beans that morning, but she stayed for our study together. Glory to God!

BIBLE STUDY in the village

During the school holiday, I have Bible study in the village twice a week. Due to the school holiday, the attendance is also smaller, like the Kabowa Bible study on Sundays. Some kids visit relatives during this time. We have paused our basics of the faith lessons from Little Pilgrims Theology due to so many absences. I read a storybook to those present today. We learned from the story that to love God means we have to obey God. We read Matthew 22:37 "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.".

Of course, we talked about the Gospel message, the Good news!

Glory to God!

BIBLE STUDY in Kabowa

Here are some photos from my Sunday Kabowa Bible study. Due to the school holiday, only 10 children came. Soon school will start again, and there will be about 40 children in attendance.

We read in Timothy and Titus about the qualifications of being an elder or pastor, as there are many false churches and pastors around them. So they had to read for themselves in God's Word what Paul tells Timothy and Titus about the qualifications. Glory to God that the children are finding Scripture and reading things in God's Word that they didn't know were even there.

I celebrated Resurrection Day by going to church and taking two of our sponsored children with me. Then I hosted Bible study with a few children. The numbers were down significantly because the school term recently ended. Since most of the 40 kids in the weekly Sunday Bible study are children who live at the school, they return home during the holiday break. This makes the number attending Bible study very small. After reading in Matthew about the resurrection, we enjoyed an Easter cake.

It’s a tradition to fellowship with Mama Fab and her children for an Easter lunch/supper at her house. The ministry purchases the food items and she always cooks a traditional Ugandan meal for her family, me, and a few Bible study children to enjoy together!

I went with our driver, Sadat, to pick up some of our secondary kids from boarding school as the term has ended and it's now holiday time. Their school is about 2 hours from Kampala, and it's typically longer because of the jam (traffic). My house is about 2 hours from Kampala in the opposite direction of the school, so this makes for a very long day of traveling for sure. I'm always thankful to see the kids and for the safe journey the Lord provided.

Pictures from my visits to Mama Dora's house to see the kids. I love them!

While the children are on holiday break from school, I'm able to meet with the neighboring village children almost every day. I usually go after I've eaten lunch and after they've finished all their work (chores).

We read a Christian book or do short VBS lessons that one of our supporting churches gave me last summer. Normally just a few kids come, not like the Bible study we have on Wednesdays and Saturdays when more of the village kids come.

Building Update

The tiling phase for the administration building is very close to completion. All floors and bathroom walls will be tiled when it is finished. The final finishes include the septic system, plumbing, electrical, interior and exterior doors, windows, etc. This final phase will cost about $28,000. Please continue to pray for full funding for DLM's Christian boarding school Building Program.

Glory to God for His many blessings!
