Delight in the Lord Kindergarten

Opening Day: February 1, 2027

God willing, we will open Delight in the Lord Kindergarten (DLK) on February 1, 2027. We will open with only the Baby class, and each year we will move those children up to the Middle class level and enroll another group of 3- and 4-year-olds (Baby class) until we are fully operating with Baby, Middle, Top, Primary 1 to Primary 7. We have many decisions to make from now until the start date. Please continue to pray as we seek to glorify God through our plans and preparations to open DLK. May He receive all the glory!!

Thank you to everyone who has prayed, continues to pray, and has financially supported this ministry to make this dream into a reality. May God bless you all!

Home Visits

Brian, Erisa, and I recently made initial visits to the homes of vulnerable children in the village to identify potential baby class students. A social worker is now making home visits to conduct a case study on each child. These case studies will help us select the children to enroll. We will have a maximum of 20 students in each class at our school. We are so excited about the progress and how close we are to opening the school. May God be glorified in all we do!

Planting Cassava for Future Lunches

I recently planted cassava sticks along the fence line near our new coffee and matoke plantation (1st picture). The sticks came from the stem cuttings of previously harvested cassava plants. They take about 9 months to a year to grow and require little maintenance. The cassava will be ready next summer and will provide lunches for our first baby class.

Cassava is a common root vegetable. The second picture shows the mature plant ready for harvest. The third picture shows Mama Dora after digging up the cassava.

Secondary Students Return for their Last Term

The start of term three has a different meaning for our Senior 4 sponsor children. This is the last term of their Delight in the Lord Ministries Educational sponsorship. This is our first group to complete secondary school. We are so proud of each one of them. Soon these students will be seeking jobs either to save money to attend Senior 5 and 6 or to provide for themselves and their families.

On Saturday, September 12, the driver and I left home at 5:10 a.m. to take three of our secondary students back to boarding school. We picked up the girls along the way but unfortunately had to wait almost an hour for a couple of them. We finally reached their school safely at 10:20 a.m. We certainly thanked God for the safe travels.

The driver and I set out for home at 11:20 a.m., and we reached home at 5:20 p.m. There was so much jam (traffic). This is the time when parents take their children back to school for the third and last term of the 2026 school year.

We thank God for the safe journey and for the educational sponsors who allow these children to receive an education.

The rest of our secondary sponsor students attend Winston Standard Secondary School, a local high school in Kampala. Pictured here are Nakato Anniton and Jovan on the day they returned. Nakato Anniton, a Senior 2 sponsor child, is posing here with her father.

Great Visit to See Our Primary Children in Kampala

What a great visit to Jeholand Junior School to see our primary sponsor children. We have 32 sponsored children attending this school. The children had returned for the third term and had been back at school for a couple of weeks. This visit took place during their one-hour lunch break.

Adult Village Bible Study

Our Adult Village Bible Study continues to meet on Sundays on our church plot. If you look closely, you can see the DLM 17-acre compound in the distance. As we made home visits in the village looking for three- to five-year-old children for DLK, we invited the parents to come for Bible Study. Over the past two meetings, several of those parents have joined us. May God be glorified!

Kids Village Bible Study

I continue to meet with some neighboring kids in the village for Bible study on Saturday afternoons. Tata Dora and Mama Dora are so gracious to allow us to meet in their home each time. We continue to pack her front room with lots of children. God has certainly blessed me with their friendship!

We have been going through the Old Testament, starting in Genesis, and have just finished learning about King Saul, King David, and King Solomon. Soon we will learn about the divided kingdom, as well as Elijah and Elisha. May God draw these kids to Himself through His Word!

Project Update

Matoke and Second Coffee Plantation

The lower section of our property has been cleared, and the trenches have been dug. A different team has come in to level the area and prepare the land for planting coffee and matoke trees. A truck delivered dried cow dung, which will be used when planting. They also burned piles of rubbish and measured where the holes will be dug.

The holes were dug, and the matoke trees were planted. Matoke doesn’t require as much rain as coffee, so we were able to go ahead and plant those. We are still waiting for consistent rain before planting the roughly 800 coffee trees. We are so thankful for the generous donation that is sponsoring this project!

Project Update

Grass Planting on the School Compound

The rains started, so we thought the rainy season had finally arrived. We decided to plant the grass sprigs, but the rain soon stopped. They kept planting until the job was finished. The groundskeeper has been watering the grass to keep it alive. A big hailstorm with heavy rain came last week, which helped the grass tremendously! We look forward to the actual rainy season, when it rains almost daily, and the grass will really flourish.
