DLM Newsletter February 2025

Saturday, February 1, 2025 and Sunday, February 2, 2025

On Saturday, our morning began with organizing and packing items for our meeting with our Educational sponsor kids. We left the house at 9:30 am with a driver taking us to Kampala. Brian met me and Mama for a delicious Italian lunch at the Mediterraneo Restaurant around 12:30 pm. We then headed over to the Kabowa community to meet the children at Jeholand Junior School and do an activity with them. We left Kampala around 5:00 pm heading home. Because of jam (traffic), we didn’t reach home until 8:00 pm. See the video clip to experience the jam. I then proceeded to lock my keys in the car as we were unpacking things and taking them into the house. Therefore, we couldn’t travel on Sunday. We planned to have the driver take me and Mama to meet Brian in Kampala and take the Subaru (with our driver) and the van filled with kids back to secondary school. Since we couldn’t travel in the Subaru, Brian took the kids back to their school about 3 hours away from Kampala. We thank the Lord for Brian’s service to this ministry and our sponsor kids!

Today was Bible study in the village. Bible study began around 2:00 pm and ended around 4:00 pm. Mama Dora and Tata Dora allow us to meet in their home each week. The room is approximately 13 ft by 12 ft, and somehow we managed even with 45 kids. We went through the plan of salvation using a flower that the children colored. A friend in the US provided these a while back. The children are always thankful for the chapati and soda or juice. Glory to God!

Here is an update from the past few days. The DLM ministry home property needs some landscaping so we paid a couple of neighbors to remove many tree stumps from the property using an axe and shovel. They worked so hard, as you can imagine! Machines are available here to do this type of work, but the downside of that option is the high cost and it takes away a job opportunity from our neighbors in the village. They are thankful to have a job. See the video of the manual labor required to remove one of the massive tree stumps. We’ve been planting grass on the property, too. An educational sponsor child and her mom gave us two banana trees we planted on the property. The trees will produce the small little yellow bananas. Mama helped rake the dead grass in piles for me to burn. The workers have been fixing the fence for the goat pen area. The goats were escaping under the fence so they had to add concrete to secure the fencing. See the video of one of the workers carrying a bucket of concrete.

The walls of the school’s administrative building are being plastered, and the window and door frames as well as the burglars are now going in. Mama Fab wrote one of her favorite Bible verses on the wall of the conference room in the administrative building. Soon, I’ll be writing other scriptures on the walls! Glory to God!

Students in Uganda return to school on different dates. Upper-class secondary students reported to school a couple of weeks ago when Brian took several of our secondary students back to their school which is 2-3 hours away from Kampala. Today is the day that Senior 1 students report for boarding. Jovan is one of our Senior 1 students, and it is time for him to report to school. He lives between the DLM property and Kampala. So I left home at 6:40 am driving to Kampala. I picked up Jovan and his things on the way. Then we met Brian who drove us to the school to register Jovan. I was happy to see the other DLM sponsor kids there since I could not take them two weeks ago as planned. We are thankful for our educational sponsors who give these kids a chance to study and learn. Brian drove us back to Kampala, where I then took over driving myself to the ministry home. I arrived home around 5 pm. We thank God for all the safe travels today!!

Today, I wrote scriptures on the walls of the administrative building! Glory to God! We need $20,000 to finish this building. We trust God will provide in His timing, as He has already up to this point. The construction team is plastering around the window bar frames, and it is looking so nice!

Today, I started a Bible study with my friend and neighbor, Mama Dora. We are reading through 1 John. I thank the Lord for the opportunity and time to meet with her and learn together! May God be glorified! I also taught her daughter and niece how to do a puzzle. Her niece learned the color blue with some flash cards. I am so blessed by the friendships I have with my neighbors! Glory to God Alone!

Yesterday was such a wonderful and blessed day! I left home at 6:45 am and went to the mall in Kampala to shop. I then picked up Mama Fab and two sponsored children for church. These two boys have frequently asked to come to my church with me. With their parents' permission, they were allowed to come.

Today I held the first Bible study of the year with the primary kids in the school in Kabowa. It was a joyous time because DLM provided ESV Study Bibles to our Primary 7 sponsored kids and even to a few non-sponsored P7 kids!!! Yay! Supporters like you allowed us to purchase Bibles for these children. God is so good! The children were so thankful and excited to have their own Bible! Glory to God!

I explained to them how the scripture was written by holy men inspired by the Holy Spirit and is always true with no errors. I then showed them the study notes at the bottom of the pages and explained how this was the interpretation of men and could have errors, unlike the Holy Scripture!!

We read Psalm 37:4, which is my favorite verse. “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” We read the study note and talked about how when we delight in the Lord or seek to glorify Him with our lives and be obedient to Him, He puts the desires in our hearts and then will fulfill them because they are from Him. I told them that God put the desire in my heart to do missions a long ago, and through many of you, He is fulfilling that desire by me being able to live and serve Him here in Uganda. God is so good!

I also shared that they must always go to the Scripture for themselves to prove what someone is saying is true. They shouldn’t just believe what pastors, teachers, or even I (Auntie CiCi) tell them, but find it in the Word of God to confirm its truth!

We will start learning some basics of the faith next week when we meet again.

There were 21 Primary 7 kids, but the children in primary 4 through primary 6 all want to be a part of the study, too!  Unfortunately, I had to limit the number of kids. Also, many of the secondary sponsor kids are coming back to continue in Bible study with us. There were 42 kids in Bible study. We sang songs and played Bingo, and they also had chapati and soda to end our time together!

I've been very quiet lately as I had quite a scare in the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 26. I was robbed in my home by six men armed with machetes and a metal bar. Items such as my laptop, two cell phones, a tablet, my smartwatch, and cash were taken, but I am okay and was not harmed. I thank the Lord for His protection. I was constantly reminded of Philippians 1:21 which says, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.". Please pray along with me that God will be glorified in the village through this incident. Also pray that God will forgive the thieves and change their hearts if He so desires, which I also prayed during the incident. Glory to God!

Several security measures were in place before the robbery, but additional security measures have been put in place for extra protection. Brian, our DLM partner, has been working tirelessly, around the clock, to make sure I am safe and the compound is more secure. Praise God for Brian!!!

During Bible study this past Saturday in the village, we talked about loving our enemies and praying for them. Listen to a prayer by one of the village kids in Luganda. He is saying, "Dear God! We thank you for making us reach this day alive. We also thank you for helping Auntie CiCi remain safe from the thieves who had attacked and did not kill her. We also pray for the thieves that had come to rob her that you change their hearts to believe in you. Amen."
