Brick by Brick...Support What God is Building!
If you missed our November 18th Fundraising Event, please take a look at two videos from that evening. https://www.delightinthelordministries.org/copy-of-the-plan
We are so thankful to be moving forward with the Building Program to construct a Christian Pre-Primary and Primary Day School. Our current Brick by Brick Capital Campaign is to build two classroom blocks in 2026. Block One will include four classrooms and a library. Block Two will include four classrooms and a computer lab.
The Brick by Brick Capital Campaign goal is $184,000. In just a few short months, we have received $124,840 of this amount. To complete both classroom blocks this year, we need $59,160!
With the $124,840 in donations we have received, we will be able to complete one classroom block and lay the foundation for the second block. Completing one block will allow us to open the Pre-Primary Day School while we wait for the remaining funds to complete the second block.
The grading of the land began on Tuesday, January 6, and was completed in two days. This was necessary before work on the classroom blocks could begin.
On Thursday, January 8, we met with Brian, the engineer, and the construction team supervisor to mark off the positions of the two classroom blocks.
On Friday, January 9, the construction team began the grueling task of digging the footings. This task was done all by hand, using picks and shovels.
The construction team worked long, hard days to make such progress in January! The foundations of the two classroom blocks are looking good!
And the work continues!
The School Chapel
The school's chapel is sponsored by a local church in Nevils, Georgia, and its construction continues to progress. This month, the construction team finished plastering the ceiling and walls. I am always amazed at the scaffolding! The window and door frames have also been installed. The glass will be installed in the final stages.
Retreat for Upper Secondary Students
We hosted our Senior 3 and Senior 4 children at the DLM Property for a 2-night retreat. One of the children actually suggested we have a retreat, so we decided to do it. It was wonderful! Eleven children attended. The children arrived early afternoon on a Thursday. After a quick snack, we had them work in groups to complete an escape room game, which proved to be a great challenge. It was fun watching them try to figure out the riddles and puzzles.
Mama Fab did an excellent job cooking dinner each night!
On Friday morning, I shared a Bible study lesson on Success in life as a devotion. Afterwards, the children enjoyed hanging out and playing outside. Later that morning, a deacon from my church in Kampala came out to give a message to the kids. He expounded on Psalm 1. What a blessing for the kids to hear Biblical teaching while here. The gospel was shared! May God have mercy to save these children, if He wills. Glory to God alone!!
After the message, students were put into two groups to complete their second escape room challenge. This one proved to be more difficult than the first. After a late lunch, Brian shared about careers and what options the kids have after finishing senior 4, when DLM sponsorships end. He advised them and provided tips for job interviews. Mama helped create an assignment of interview questions for the kids to answer independently in preparation for interviews. Brian, Mama, and I held short 5-10 minute mock job interviews with each kid. This was such an eye-opening experience to see the kids' personalities come out in the interview.
I enjoyed meeting with each child individually just to talk about anything going on in their lives. The retreat was a huge success!!!
Secondary Parent Meeting
With the retreat ending on Saturday morning, I purposely planned the secondary student-parent meeting for that day so I could transport the children back to Kampala and meet the parents to sign agreements and liability forms. I always take the opportunity to start our meeting by sharing the gospel message with these parents. Brian is always a huge help as he translates every single item on the documents. Praise God for him and his willingness to give of his time! Mama Fab is also vital to the Educational Sponsorship program and helps in many different ways!
It's always rewarding to see the parents and how appreciative they are of their sponsors.
We will have our primary student-parent meeting this coming week. Schools have been delayed but will start February 10.
