DLM Newsletter January 2023
Most of you know that each year I come to the US mid December to spend time with family for Christmas and then spend our days in January sharing about Delight in the Lord Ministries and fundraising. This January proved to be a very busy time for us. I was blessed to be accompanied by my family and a board member on several of our speaking engagements. In all, we had 14 speaking engagements, an annual board meeting and our annual Resolution 5K Walk/Run. We shared about DLM and what God is doing through this ministry with three civic groups, four churches, a local middle school FCA club, a missionary luncheon, a local women's conference, three prayer groups, a WMU group, a group of Sunday School classes, and a Wednesday night children's group. God always blesses us as we give Him glory and share of His works through DLM. This year was no different. From these speaking engagements, God blessed us with four new monthly partners (two churches and two individuals), a new monthly building partner and abundant love offerings. We serve an Awesome God!
Delight in the Lord Ministries held its 7th Annual Resolution 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, January 7, 2023. We have been blessed by Brooklet Kiwanis for hosting this event for us the past several years. This year we had a total of 72 participants. We had an overall profit of $4,350. We are so thankful for each runner, each volunteer, each Brooklet Kiwanis club member, Timing by Toby, and every person who helped in any way to make this such a wonderful event for DLM. The profits from our race will be used to assist all ministry outreaches this year.
Mama and I arrived in Uganda on January 23rd around 10:30pm Ugandan time.

It was so fun to see the progress of the ministry home today. The roof and ceilings are almost complete. This phase should be finished by the end of next week.
Take a look at the home! And be on the lookout for additional posts with detailed pics and videos of the ceiling process and the roofing. Thankful for all of you! Glory to God alone!

The process used to construct the concrete ceilings of the ministry home is very interesting. Boards were used to create a grid of 18 in x 18 in squares and then wire was nailed to. The cement is mixed on the concrete foundation, shoveled into empty cement bags, lifted up into the attic space and then taken to the area where they are pouring the concrete into the squares. The concrete mixture is put on the chicken wire material. Some of the concrete falls through so tarps are placed on the floor to collect the concrete that has fallen. It is then reused to save on material costs.
Tomorrow, we will post about the roofing process. Glory to God!!

The roofing process was so interesting to watch! The sheets are 28 gauge corrugated aluminum iron sheets. The person on the roof measures the size of iron sheet that is needed. The guy on the ground measures the length of the sheet and then uses a sample sheet to get the exact angle measurement. He then marks the iron sheet with a nail and then hand cuts the sheet. Once the worker on the roof gets the new sheet, he aligns it properly with the previous iron sheet and then nails it in place. It will take 4-5 days to completely cover the roof with the iron sheets. The house is approximately 3,400 square feet. Glory to God!

The roof and ceiling phase is now complete!!! The phase for finishes includes plastering the ceiling, which will happen in a couple weeks. The house really looks like a house now.
Today, we walked through the house with the electrician to confirm and add electrical sockets and lights. The plumber was also there to confirm the water outlets. Brian is adding more crew members to move along even faster than they already have. He also wants to complete as much as possible before Mama goes back home to America on February 27th. We are so thankful for Brian and his team!

We had another parent meeting this past Thursday for our sponsored children. This meeting was held for those parents who were unable to attend our December parent meeting. Brian and I were very thankful to have two sponsored children, one Bible study child, Mama Fab, and my mama to help with the meeting. Brian translated everything during the meeting, as many of the moms don't know English. We went over the mandatory documents and agreements and had the parents sign after having it explained. It was so cool to see both mom and dad for one of our sponsored children. Usually the mothers are the only ones who come because they are usually the only ones taking care of the kids. We are always so appreciative of how God uses our many ed sponsors to bless these kids and their families. Glory to God!

Students started school today for the 2023 school year. Mama Fab, two Bible study kids, and I wrote the name of the student on each of their notebooks. Some classes had 6 notebooks, one for each subject. The pre-school aged students had less. We then distributed the notebooks and pen/pencils to those kids who reported to school that day. All the kids were thankful for their sponsors who help give them this opportunity. We certainly thank God for you! Glory to God Alone!
