It’s harvest time!

We’ve been busy this week harvesting the maize and g-nuts or ground nuts. Alisa, my neighbor who planted the crops for me, is now harvesting the crops. He has been here in the compound working many hours for the past week or two. The process for harvesting the maize includes drying the maize (corn) on the stalks before husking them and letting the cobs dry again on a tarp. Then a machine is brought in to remove the kernels from the cobs. The compound was popping today as they brought the machine in and completed this process. Now, the kernels must go through a drying phase for a few days before taking them to a grinder to make flour. This corn flour is used to make posho and porridge.

Alisa and I uprooted g-nuts which are like our peanuts. Our project site manager was so helpful and pulled many of the nuts off the bush for me. I helped a little. The g-nuts were too dry to boil like we do back home, but we did shell some for roasting.

I’ll be sharing all of the final products with my neighbors and the sponsor kids and their families in Kabowa.

Saturday is always Bible study day in the village unless I have another scheduled program that can’t be avoided. Today, we reviewed what we learned about “Who God Is”.

Glory to God!

Today, a driver picked me up at 6:45 am to take me to Kampala. I enjoyed a nice meal at a restaurant in the mall this morning before shopping for groceries. Then we picked Mama Fab up to go to church. After church, it was Bible study at the school in Kabowa where our sponsor children attend. We talked about the fruits of the spirit in Galatians 5. They learned Paul wrote the letter to the churches in Galatia by reading it in the Scripture. They also learned that the book was written as a letter to be read at once. May they grow in their knowledge of the Lord and His holy scripture during our Bible study time this year!

Glory to God Alone!

Today, I had Bible study with Mama Dora. We are studying the book of 1 John. This week we looked at God being light in chapter 1 verses 5-7. It says, “This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”. We prayed for those people we know who are walking in darkness that God would change their hearts and bring them into His kingdom. Glory to God for our time to read His Word.

They train their children early to pray! Angie opened her eyes as soon as Mama Dora, her mom, said “Amina”, which means Amen! Haha!

Personal Bible study with Mama Dora is amazing! We met on Friday and are meeting twice a week. We may have to adjust how often we meet when planting season begins.

The village kid Bible study met today at Mama Dora’s house. I’m so blessed to be able to share the Truth of God and His Word with them. Glory to God!

After a week, the maize is finally dry enough for packing into these big sacks. Alisa and a couple of boda boda guys came this evening to take the kernels to the grinder. Now, I have sacks of maize flour, which will be soon shared with my neighbors and kids in Kampala. I don’t actually eat the maize flour so it’s an outreach project that gives Alisa a job and also blesses many people.

The administrative building is moving along very nicely. An undercoat of paint is being applied, as well as the wires for the electrical work. The bars in the windows are called burglars and are used here to deter thieves. The crown molding is designed by hand and with concrete. Glass windows will be added in the final phase. Soon tiling will begin.

Glory to God!!

More tree stumps on the compound were removed by some neighbors. It’s hard work, but they appreciate the job and the chance to make money.

Today, I planted some grass in some bare spots around the compound as we continue to make progress on the landscape. Shadow, my German Shepherd, loves her strolls around the property.

I’m so thankful God provided this land for us to enjoy, take care of, and grow crops that we are able to share with others. He is so good!!

Sunday, March 23, 2025

Sundays are always encouraging to me as I attend church and host Bible study with the kids at Jeholand Schools Kabowa. Most of the kids who attend Bible study are our sponsor children who attend this school. We finished up our lesson on Who God Is and discussed His attributes by finding Scripture to inform us!

Monday, March 24, 2025

Today, I packed the maize flour into small plastic bags. Each bag is 1 kilo of flour to make posho. I will distribute them to our sponsor children the next time I go to Kampala. It is so cool to see the end product after planting and harvesting the maize. It’s now rainy season again so soon the cycle will start over with planting!

Today, the local schools met at one of the school's open fields for a running competition. They had to determine the top runners for the county area out of the various schools. The winners will continue to the next level. I went to support Masiko school where I led reading lessons last year. The kids were happy to have the "mzungu" there supporting their school.

Satruday, March 29, 2025

Today in the village Bible study, we talked about one of the purposes of the Law of God which is to reveal sin to us.

Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭20‬ ‭ESV‬‬ “For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.”

‭‭Glory to God!

On Sunday, a driver took me to Kampala for church and Bible study in Kabowa. It was a Muslim holiday so some of the boarding children were off campus. Their parents came and got them for the holiday.

I do the same lessons in Kabowa as I do for the village Bible study. However, I’m able to move through much quicker in Kabowa because the children are older and are more fluent in English. They can find Scripture quicker and can copy quicker. We studied the purpose of the law, which is to reveal sin, to restrain evil, and to regulate the Christian life.

Glory to God!

Monday, I had to return to Kampala for a doctor’s appointment. The driver took me by Jeholand Schools Kabowa again so I could give out the maize flour that I packed last week. I gave it to our sponsored children who are day schoolers…..meaning they go home after the school day so they are able to give the food to their parent or guardian. The kids were excited and thankful!
