DLM Newsletter March 2024

I was in America most of March, but Bible study continued while I was gone. Mama Fab did a great job in my absence.

I’m Home!! I’m so thankful to have reached home safely in Uganda on Tuesday around 2 am Ugandan time (Monday 5 pm local time). Shadow was happy to see me as well as all my cats. I went to sleep around 4 am and slept until the afternoon. Then, Sisco helped me unpack the SIX 50 lb bags and get things organized. I saw Galen and Gabe after they came back from school! I’ll be in bed early tonight and will sleep good! 😂 Thank you all for the prayers! Glory to God Alone!

I’m still getting adjusted to the time change, as I was awake from 1-5 am Ugandan time this morning (Tuesday night 6-10 pm local Georgia time). I read and listened to the Bible most of that time. Needless to say, I slept in until 10 am this morning!

After exercising, I walked Shadow around the compound. The cats also enjoy the wide open space of the compound and are very entertaining! 😂

Then, I worked on some administrative things for the non-profit here in Uganda, preparing to file an annual return.

I helped Galen and Gabe with their homework when they returned home from school and practiced their memory verses again! Gabe is working on Genesis 1:1.

Glory to God!

Sam and I left home at 7:30 am. I am so thankful to have Sam as my driver. On our way into Kampala, we had to branch off the main road to pick up Sandra and her mother which added an extra 30 minutes to our typical driving time. We reached the hospital in Kampala at 11 am. After going from one doctor to another and having an ultrasound, we finished and left the hospital at 3:15 pm.

UPDATE on Sandra

Sandra can walk by herself now!! It’s amazing how God has been working to slowly heal her body after having TB in her brain followed by brain surgery. In November of last year, she could barely move her legs. God is good and has been merciful to Sandra! Today’s ultrasound proved that she no longer has the blood clot in her leg that was found and treated back in December while she was in the hospital. That’s a huge praise! She received 2 more months of TB medicine. This medicine for TB is given free by the government so we have to continue to follow up at the hospital to receive the drugs. She will be on the TB meds for a total of 9 months. Mentally, she still seems to be on a younger child’s level with her emotions, though she has improved greatly. She can now say the sounds that animals make, and her handwriting is better. We keep praying God will allow her to have a complete recovery of her brain but trust His will. We are just so thankful for His blessings and her life!

We dropped off Sandra and her mama at their house at 6:15 pm and reached home at 7:45 pm.

We thank God for safe journeys all day, and I’m especially thankful for a driver! 😊

Glory to the Lord!!

Good Friday

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

We praise God for this reconciliation Jesus’s death on the cross brought His people!!

Romans 11:36

“To Him be glory forever! Amen.”

Today, I left at 9:30 am with Sam driving. We reached the school in Kabowa at 11:45 am for the first Bible study of the year that I’ve had with the kids. Mama Fab has been leading it while I’ve been in the US. The kids have been learning about the Holy Week for the past month during weekly Bible study.

Today, we looked at the different prophecies throughout the Scriptures that were fulfilled in Jesus’s death. We also read in Exodus about God’s command to celebrate the Passover, what that meant, and how that pointed to Jesus as our perfect and final sacrifice! We played bingo once, and then they enjoyed a soda and a snack.

We left the school at 3:00 pm and reached home at 5:15 pm. We thank the Lord for the safe journey today!

After reaching home, Galen, Gabe, and I pulled some weeds, tilled the soil, and planted some sweet corn that I brought from the US! We worked until 7:00 pm. I’m thankful for their help! :)

Happy Resurrection Day!

I was blessed to be able to take some of the Bible Study kids to church with me this morning. They wouldn’t have gone to church otherwise. They want to come back next Sunday! We glorify God they were able to hear the Truth preached today!

After church, we had Bible study. We played Bingo and then an Easter trivia game.

We read the Resurrection accounts in each of the four Gospels. We discussed that they were written by different men with varying accounts of that morning. Even though the details are unique in each of the accounts, the main point that is consistent in each of them is that Jesus had risen!! Then, we enjoyed cake and sodas.

Finally, DLM gave money for Mama Fab to buy food to cook an Easter meal for me, her family, and Sam and Sisco’s family. A few of the Bible study kids also joined us for the meal.  We had chicken, rice, matoke, ground nut sauce, fried potatoes, and greens. It was all so delicious! Thankful for Mama Fab who cooked it all after church.

We left home at 8:15 am and just getting back at 8:00 pm.

Today, the kids and I thank God for all the DLM sponsors and supporters who give so we can have Bible study and these community outreach opportunities.

May God bless you all!
